"We really like the way you see the world and we want to live with one of your artworks" As said to me at an Open Studio event by some new friends
Kathryn with John Boeze in Chicago, 2006.
A bit of background... I have a degree in advertising and graphic design, and worked as an Art Director for different ad agencies and marketing firms. However, in 1994 I had an opportunity to apprentice with John Boesze, a Hungarian artist then in his 80's, who instructed me in the old world art form of stained glass mosaics. I took my marketing skills, blended them with my artist spirit, and began working with architects and designers on public and private commissions.
I still work with stained glass, but primarily in a design capacity. Since I enjoy the vibrant colors of fabric dyes and paints, I've added mixed media textile paintings to my studio work. Working on silk or cotton muslin, I can layer colors together or use wax for a batik effect. And some paintings allow me to add stained glass details, giving the artwork a deeper dimension of color.
